I don’t know about you, but it’s my experience that most continuing education courses for sports and fitness coaches are weighted heavily towards the theoretical side of learning.

Whether this is on purpose or not remains unclear but there’s no denying that when we’re deep in the throes of learning about theory, we can lean into the deep human desire to understand how things work.

In fact, our body chemistry is designed to reward us with a hit of the happy hormone dopamine, when we discover an answer to our problems.

It’s like closing a loop.

When we’re presented with a problem, the loop is opened – and when we find a solution, the loop is closed and we get our “hit” of dopamine.

But when the solution to our problem is unclear, we dig deeper in search of answers in order to experience that natural “high” of finding a solution.

When we look at it from this point of view, it could quite easily be argued that continuing education is addictive.

It could also be part of the reason that the big players in the CPD world put so much emphasis on theory.

There’s no doubt that when we’re “studying” (i.e. being presented with complex problems and everything they entail), we’re in a happy human place… and they certainly make us feel clever.

But these courses are like those TV programmes that draw you in with a cool question about something weird that happened, spend the entire time explaining what happened and by the end of the programme leave you with no more of an answer than “we don’t know”.

Why?

1) Because they only give you one or two practical suggestions (or leave you to figure it out on your own entirely), and

2) Because in the real world, coaching isn’t about what you KNOW. It’s about how you can HELP.

Fortunately, humans also get a flood of “feel-good” hormones when we help other people.

That’s why the SMARTT® Coach courses are built to lean heavily on the practical elements of coaching.

Whether you’re looking to offer stand-alone courses, assessments, individual programming or even create referral networks with other professionals to build up your coaching income, the SMARTT® methods will show you how.

Or whether you’re simply looking to find different ways of identifying, reducing and preventing pain for your people to help improve their performances, the SMARTT® methods will show you how to do that too.

Of course, we’ll cover the theory too, but theory alone is no good if you don’t know how to put it into practice in ways that actually fast-track the progress of your people AND help you build up your coaching income.

So, if you’re ready to take your coaching to the next level in 2022, watch out for an unmissable Black Friday deal (coming on Friday) that will BLOW. YOUR. SOCKS. OFF!
